Many people put off getting hearing aids. Why? They believe they can still get
by – as long as family & friends just speak up & quit mumbling. Think about it, if you
couldn’t see, you’d get glasses to see better. It is only natural that if you couldn’t
hear, you’d get hearing aids to hear better.

Hearing aid selection begins after a complete audiological evaluation. Hearing aids can & do make a huge difference in your ability
to hear. Wearing hearing aids improves the quality of your life and relationships with family & friends.
However, no hearing aid out there no matter how much money you spend can restore normal, perfect hearing. During the
hearing aid fitting, your hearing aids will be adjusted to your individual hearing needs. It takes about 2 - 4 visits for you to get the
most comfortable & effective fitting.

By wearing hearing aids, you will be more relaxed & confident. Remember, it’s cool to hear.

Hearing aids improve the hearing you have left. Hearing aids are
not a cure & will not restore perfect hearing. Not all hearing aids
are created equal & not all hearing losses are the same.

A person can expect to hear better when wearing hearing aids.
One hearing aid is good, but two hearing aids are definitely better.
Wearing two hearing aids balances you & allow you to localize where
sound is coming from. They also allow you to hear better in noisy
situations.

Hearing may appear different, and it will be, considering that a
person has not heard properly for years. It will take time to get
adjusted to hearing all over again. At times, noise can be
overwhelming.

Start using your hearing aids at home. Walk from room to room.
Go to the kitchen and listen to the refridgerator motor, turn on the
water, listen to the clock ticking & your own footsteps. Take the
newspaper and turn the pages. Practice listening to all these
sounds. It will be an eye opener in the beginning. But you’ll
get used to it over time.

Clean your hearing aids every single day by wiping it with a dry clean tissue or cloth. If there is still is debris or wax, use your brush
to remove the remaining dirt. Maintaining clean hearing aids will ensure that they will work. Ear wax is the biggest enemy of
hearing aids. If your hearing aid gets plugged up with wax, you may not hear.

Never get your hearing aids wet. Water can damage hearing aids. Hearing aids are electronic devices that can be damaged when
exposed to excessive moisture.

Avoid dropping your hearing aids, especially on hard surfaces such as hard wood floors or concrete. This can crack the shell or cause
damage to the internal electronics such as the microphone, receiver, circuit or microchip.

Keep young children and pets away from hearing aids. They may accidentally play or even eat the hearing aids. This is dangerous.

Hearing aid batteries (size 13 or 312) on average can last about 2 weeks. The more you use the hearing aids, the more the battery
drains. Smaller size 10 batteries lasts about 5-7 days. But if you wear your hearing aid from 7am - 12 midnight, you’ll get only
3 days tops. Larger 675 batteries can last 3-4 weeks.

TIP: Open the battery door when not using the hearing aid. By doing this, you are disengaging contact between the battery & the
hearing aid contacts. This saves your battery & may give you an extra few days on the life of your battery.

  • Your current comprehensive hearing test, preferably less than 1 year. This does not mean a hearing screening.

  • Hearing aids come in different sizes and technologies. The price of hearing aids reflects the product/size/technology as well as the professional's services. Rule of thumb: The smaller the hearing aid, the more it will cost. And the smaller batteries need to be changed more frequently than larges ones.

  • Hearing aids are recommended based on the degree of hearing loss, size of ear canal, manual dexterity, typical listening environments, and your budget. Due to overwhelming phone calls by our competitors, hearing aid prices will not be given over the phone. Patients are asked to book an appointment for further consultation.
